Borderland Museum

The Bad Sachsa Borderland Museum, which focuses on the Southern Harz region, vividly and clearly illustrates the painful history of Germany’s division between 1945 and 1990. Under the motto “Preserve—Remember—Remind,” you’ll learn through numerous exhibits, documents, and dioramas about the development of the border that once divided Germany and its impact on the people living on both sides. The permanent exhibition has bilingual captions and can easily be explored on your own or as part of a guided tour. Guided tours are available at any time upon request.

The Grenzlandmuseum opened its doors on November 12, 1992, exactly three years after the border gates on the B 243 between Nüxei and Mackenrode were opened. Following its relocation in 2016, the Borderland Museum is now located in the Vitalpark Bad Sachsa, right next to the Bad Sachsa Tourist Information Office.

The Grenzlandmuseum is always ready to listen to its guests. Numerous special events are planned throughout the year. You can look forward to exciting author readings and lectures. The Grenzlandmuseum Bad Sachsa and the Bad Sachsa Tourist Information Office regularly host lectures as part of the “Grenzland-Talk” event series.
