Harz Mountain Trail

A Six-Stage Journey Through the Harz National Park

The Harzer Baudensteig takes you through the diverse landscape of the southern Harz Mountains in six stages. Each stage has its own charm. You’ll hike on well-marked trails through forests, valleys, and over hills. Along the way, cozy forest restaurants—known as “Bauden”—invite you to take a break. That’s where its evocative name comes from.

From Bad Grund, the route continues via Lerbach and Sieber to Bad Lauterberg. The trail then leads on to Bad Sachsa. Here you’ll experience nature, culture, and hospitable places to stop for a break. The final stages connect Bad Sachsa with Walkenried and finally with Tettenborn.

The Baudensteig offers you about 100 kilometers of hiking fun. You decide whether to hike individual sections or the entire route. Enjoy the peaceful natural surroundings, breathtaking views, and quaint places to stop for a bite to eat.
