Nature and Time Museum
A Journey Through the History of the Harz Landscape
The Nature and Time Museum in Bad Sachsa invites you on a journey through time. Here, you’ll learn more about the various geological eras that have shaped the landscape of the southern Harz Mountains around Bad Sachsa and how today’s breathtaking natural landscape came to be. Who would have thought, for example, that Bad Sachsa was once home to dinosaurs in a desert climate or fish basking in the tropical sun? The exhibits at the Nature and Time Museum in Bad Sachsa will give you insight into this and much more.
The Exhibition
In addition to the existing exhibition content—which provides fascinating and informative insights into how a volcano works and the volcanic activity of the Ravensberg and Langenberg mountains (the “Worlds of Fire” and “Amethyst and Crystal Worlds” exhibitions), the Zechstein Sea period and its fossils (the “Marine Worlds” exhibition), as well as the formation of today’s landforms through the Ice Age and gypsum karst (the “Geo-Worlds” exhibition), the section on “Desert Worlds” is now coming to life in a special way.
For more information about the marine, fire, geological, and desert worlds, please see the informational flyer.
Information Center for the Harz National Park and the Harz UNESCO Global Geopark. Braunschweiger Land. Eastphalia
In addition to its interesting historical exhibits, the Nature and Time Museum also houses an information center for the Harz National Park and the Harz Geopark. Three rooms designed to resemble natural environments offer fascinating insights into the Harz’s natural world, which visitors can experience interactively here. Various films offer tips for your next trip to the magical world of the Harz National Park.
As before, the Harz National Park Information Center and the permanent exhibition on the Children of July 20 are still located in the same building.
